A Very British Civil War Note: this is clearly a “what-if” scenario, loosely based on the bustling miniatures war gaming off-shoot of the same name. Outstanding work has been done by Solway Crafts and Miniatures, and I credit them with the brilliance of this war gaming theme. Background England, May 1938 (designer note: note the in-game calendar notes “1944”; this is only to create the optics of lush green environment of the British Isles) Weather: overcast, mild, dry The very social fabric of Great Britain was torn during the apocalypse that was The Great War. The mightiest empire on the globe ended victorious, but at what cost? The rigid social hierarchy was shaken, and the world wide waves of social change did not stop at the English Channel. Class structure, worker’s rights, regional animosities have all brewed in the decades following the Great War. This has all been exacerbated by the crippling economic crisis of the 1930s, to which the ever cautious government responded to by constricting public spending ever more. In May 1937, King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom married Wallis Simpson. The marriage to Wallis was not supported by Stanley Baldwin, the British Prime Minister; and King Edward refused to abdicate. This marriage left the British government, and most of the people, alienated; and public hatred for King Edward and Queen Wallis rose. Parliament was torn, and in the general election of 1937, Baldwin was defeated. The Conservative party, ripped by the issue of King Edward’s marriage, as well as economic and regional tensions, broke apart, and a large segment of the Tory support went to the British Union of Fascists. Oswald Mosley’s promise to ensure public order, and shore up the Empire, resonated with a public tired of public disturbances, strikes in essential services, and the economic malaise. The Labour party too split, with the more radical sections forming their own splinter parties which ran their own candidates. The 1937 election results saw a fractured parliament, and although only winning slightly over 200 seats, and less than 30% of the vote, the BUF formed the largest caucus in the House of Commons. King Edward VIII asked Oswald Mosely to form a government. Mosley did so and almost immediately issued “Orders of Council”, outlawing strikes, restricting collective bargaining, and establishing new offences for unauthorized public gatherings, and publishing “any article intended to alarm the public”. Any opposition was swiftly responded to, if not by the police, then by Mosely’s own BUF Blackshirts, the BUF’s paramilitary wing. In January 1938, a protest by Dockyard workers in Liverpool was brutally crushed by the BUF and elements of the Regular Army; and violent clashes began across the country; between the Kings troops and those of several other factions. The British Civil War has begun!

Major factions included: On the Right (Axis in this scenario * The Edwardian Army – elements of the professional Army, bound to King Edward VIII. * The Royal Navy and Royal Marines – bound by tradition and culture to remain loyal to the reigning monarch, and the majority have done so. * The British Union of Fascists (or “BUF”) – the dominant political party, led by Oswald MOSLEY and heavily backed by German and Italian interests. Mosley has garnered considerable support in his efforts to restore order internally and restore the status of Britain’s Empire * The Mosley Youth – a “social club” of young men, who have been drilled and armed by unknown sources, and have formed para-military units to push the BUF agenda. * Foreign Volunteer Units: after the recruiting of numerous foreign elements to fight in the Spanish Civil War, similar detachments have been formed to back those with similar agendas in the British Civil War. Contingents from other fascist and imperialist sympathizers have been formed. Here we will see the presence of the “Hanoverian Legion”, volunteers from Germany, who are backing the Edwardian and BUF efforts On the Left (Allied in this scenario) * The Albertine Army – elements of the regular forces, plus most of the “Territorial Army”, backing the young Prince Albert’s claim to the throne. * The Anglican League - A large army led by a group of bishops and archbishops, they were aligned with the Albertine Army. Many are veterans of the Great War. * The People’s Party Army - Made up of disillusioned Labour party supporters, disgruntled workers and Spanish Civil War veterans, they are seeking to turn Britain into a Socialist state based upon Lenin's Russia. * The Farmer’s Union: radical small plot farmers and farm working hands, seeking better pay, price subsidies, and land redistribution. They are heavily influenced by Marxist doctrine. * The Student’s Union: like students before and after them, the university students have ramparts to thwart whomever they view as authoritarian, * Foreign Volunteer Units: after the recruiting of numerous foreign elements to fight in the Spanish Civil War, similar detachments have been formed to back those with similar agendas in the British Civil War. Groups of Americans, Canadians, and ANZAC units have been formed; here we will see the Lafayette Battalion, formed of French volunteers, many fresh from the savage fighting in Spain. This scenario occurs in the West Coast port town of Twaddlemore. Twaddlemore is the home base for a small Royal Navy destroyer flotilla, as well as being a mid-sized port for international commerce. Given that the United Kingdom lives or dies based on this freedom to trade overseas, the port is vital to all in this conflict. The Royal Navy, which for the most part has remained loyal to King Edward VIII, dispatched the flotilla two days ago to join the rest of the fleet, tasked with stemming the flow of foreign volunteers coming to fight for their faction of choice. Many of these foreigners have come directly from fighting for the Nationalists or the Republicans in Spain, who have endured two years of their own brutal Civil War already. Yesterday the dock workers, who are heavily influenced by communist agents and are affiliated with the People’s Party, refused to move armaments stored in the dock warehouses. Instead, they armed themselves and fighting broke out when security staff sought to control the situation. Who opened fire first is both in dispute and a moot point at this juncture. A company of the Army’s Provost Corps was rushed to Twaddlemore by train, but a bomb was used to derail the trail just outside of town. Multiple factions are either in town currently or rumoured to be headed this way. The Telephone Exchange is the key to communicating with the rest of the country, and is clearly a goal to secure. Likewise, the docks and the armaments stored there in are also of immense value. Lastly, the mysterious new Wireless Tower being built on the south shore is of unknown value, as the work crews are from “away” and appear to be quite Teutonic in manner. This battle will surely prove that the term “Civil War” is clearly a misnomer.

The Germans are trying to seize important territory: bridges, cross-roads, and towns to allow breakthrough armored thrusts. Central to this map is the village of L’Shone and its surrounding road network.
The Americans are trying to occupy the same terrain to prevent its use by the Germans.

It is hard to believe that it was only a week ago when we first heard of “The Outbreak”. Initially it was thought to be a terrorist biological attack, with outbreaks in large cities overwhelming medical facilities. But soon it was apparent it was much more… the more we hear, the more we realize that we know very little – the cause – the prognosis – or the scale of this crisis. All remain unknown – at least to the general populace. What the “government” knows may be something else again. You are Jack McCann, police chief in the small coastal tourist town of Shady Acres, Maine. Normally by this time of the year, your town is overrun with loud tourists from the cities of the East Coast. If only that were the case. Four days ago a large staff of the Center for Disease Control showed up at the Town Hall, and brusquely informed the Mayor, Chuck Zeto, that the Federal Government was immediately taking control of “Shady Island”, a favourite picnic spot in the bay. This was all one-way communication, you don’t know much more other than soon thereafter a convoy of sealed trucks arrived and barbed wire was being strung across the access bridge to the island. The National Guard has been mobilized, and your own police force has been placed under the command of the governor’s office. And yet even now, you are not sure why. A strange illness has swept the globe, but what little news was initially released was like something from a bad movie. Now that trickle of news has stopped altogether. The official story is that a Chinese cyber attack has shut down the Internet, but this being Small Town America, there are a lot of conspiracy theories floating about. The Mayor, Chuck Zeto, who also is the local bank manager, has asked that citizens assist in securing the town from whatever threats may arise. Given that the local National Rifle Association sponsored Chuck’s last campaign, their members were eager to show their affinity for the 2nd amendment and reaffirm their ownership of large capacity magazines and assault rifles. With some hesitation, you agreed to deputize these men, but have asked them to stay at home until they may actually be required. Their training and experience doesn’t necessarily match their enthusiasm. You were at your office all night. You had a call from Doctor Jacobie at the hospital. Dr. Jacobie, a Vietnam war draft dodger who only returned from Canada in the 1990s, is determined to ignore what he considers a “fascist edict” that all patients in suspected cases of the “outbreak” be turned over to the C.D.C. immediately and quarantined on the Island. “It reminds me of the interment of the Japanese in 1942!” Jacobie ranted, and he said he would treat all patients as “patients, not criminals”. At that, you sent two teams of part time deputies to the hospital to deal with any issues that may arise. The town is an important transportation hub, in that the coastal railway runs through the town. The Railway has deployed their own security at the train station, as if there is an epidemic, it is important to prevent those infected from traveling. Hopefully they have enough staff to do the job. You remained in your office all night, and it seemed that things may be calming down, but then with a complete news black out, and the mute C.D.C. guards by the island Park, who knows? You did receive several calls from citizens overnight, reporting screams and other noises from the areas near cemeteries last night; typically the local teens will go there to drink and smoke up. Although you usually will send a Deputy to put the run on them, there are more important things to do now. The sun is coming up, but a heavy thick fog has blankets the town. A convoy of C.D.C. relieve staff are expected in from Bangor any minute; hopefully they have some news. To allow your exhausted staff get some needed rest, two detachments of National Guard troops will be arriving, one is about 5 minutes away and a second convoy from the east in another 5 minutes after that. It will be good to get home and hit the sheets. You are so tired you feel like the walking dead. Your phone rings. It is the security detail from the train station. Old man Codger, a elderly farmer who lives north east of town, has just shown up at the Rail station, out of breath and terrified. He is rambling about being attacked at his home, and that the only way he could escape is by setting the buildings on fire. You had better send a Deputy to go interview him. It sounds bizarre. The phone rings again… it is Deputy Boomhauer at the hospital. He sounds quite distraught. Apparently the hospital was overwhelmed with patients overnight, and now he reports the motion detector alarms in the morgue have gone off. At that second the switch board lights up, and several simultaneous “10-78” calls are received – “officer need assistance!”… What the?????”
This scenario is 1) Meant strictly for play against the AI. Although it one player wants to try playing the Axis/Zombies, please feel free. 2) The scenario is meant to be strictly for fun. 3) Watch you ammo loads. Shoot for the head. You only have the ammo you brought into the fight.

At Dornot, the U.S. Third Army's XX Corps' first attempt to establish a bridgehead on the Moselle River south of Metz met bloody failure. Two and a half miles south of Dornot the XX Corps' 10 Infantry Regiment is trying once more to establish a permanent bridgehead across the Moselle at Arnaville. Since the first U.S. troops crossed at Arnaville on the night of 8/9 September, the Germans have been launching increasingly vicious counterattacks in an effort to destroy the bridgehead and repeat what happened at Dornot.

In recent weeks, this industrial center has been the scene of increasingly sharp clashes between recon units and regular forces. Both sides have traded jabs over this important airplane fabrication city. Both have moved into the town and then been forced out again. No one seems to be able to hold it. The landing gear assembly plant on the edge of town was occupied by the Red Army a few days ago and then burned and destroyed as the Wehrmacht forced them out. Much of the town lies untouched, but the workers and residents know it is just a matter of time before a major battle rages through the streets of their city…
After another bloody engagement, both sides have backed off. Again, in the still of a Sunday morning under the cover of a pounding rainstorm, both sides push forces forward to gain possession of the city.
No one is sure where the front lines lie. Is the enemy in front of you? Or is he gone?
Push forward, as so many before you have tried, and hold this town once and for all!

October, 1942 In the northern Caucaus, along the Terek river line, the battle has been raging brutally for nearly two months. Germany's 13.Panzer-Division tasked with taking the key junction city of Vladikavkaz (Ordzhonikidze) has been stymied in it's every attempt to breakthrough.
But now, at the end of October a break has been achieved through the first mountain range and panzers are rolling along the valley near Ardon, on a back route to Vladikavkaz.
The Russians, somewhat disorganized, are withdrawing to new positions. A desperate stand is ordered to slow the German advance and buy time to set-up the new defensive positions.

November 1944, the French 2nd Armored Division is tasked to breach the German fortified line of the Vosges mountains. This battle takes place on the second days of the attack. The different French Task forces are competing with each other in order to be the first to reach the plain of Alsace. The company team Minjonnet (part of the Task Force Massu) blocked close to Voyer in a narrow valley by German remnants of the 708. ID has to bypass quickly this resistance. The French can be sure that their old enemy is not about to ease their action !

Follow the swift Donet's campaign the IInd SS panzer Korps stands poised for the final push too retake Kharkov and restore the pride of the Waffen SS, but they have too cross the Mzha river first.

This is a huge (actually 5 x 4 km) map representing a piece of French countryside west of the town of Arras. It is flat (gentle slopes) and moderately populated with villages, forests, orchards and the like. It is suitable for a massive battle of regiment-sized forces (15,000 points or more).

This was a work in progress for the cancelled CM Campaigns. Maps are both operations and battles. Four maps included. One is large version (75% accurate scale) of the entire fortress of Brest Litovsk and immediate area. Others are 2 km x 2 km maps of the north and south portions of the fortress. You are welcome to use these maps as long as your credit "Bannon DC" for map creation.

This CMBO map is built from a topographical map of the little town of Seville, NE of Melbourne, Australia. My idea was to lauch a Brit brigade (3 btns) across it at a German static defence screening mobile reserves.

Desiliens is an ancient Roman town. The map features the ruins of the town, an aquaduct, and the ruins of a villa on a low central hill.
The eastern side of the map is mostly woods, the west is hills and farms. It is most suitable for an assault on the town, but if the focus is shifted to the ruined villa it would be good for a meeting engagement.

This ones good too.
Sent the Tigers forward in a good overwatch positions and used the arty for screening with smoke. Bulk of my forces went up the east side paralleling the main road. 2 tigers, 4 Pzkw IV, and a PzG platoon paralleled the westside essentially overwatching the eastern forces. I spent a lot of time manuevering on the Russian infantry. Again their guns went down pretty quick and from long range. Russians tanks went down at long range also. Engaged them from the south edge of the map.
No Tigers broke down.
Exited a small force, but the larger one was right at the map edge by turn 50 and couldnt exit. Just couldnt resist taking out the infantry along the NE side of the map.
I've had the game since the Spec Ed. came out. Just started playing it a few weeks ago. Superior to all versions of Steel Panthers IMO.
This scenario is just right IMO.

First attempt did not go well because the panzer iv and the APC lost heavily to enemy antitankguns and mines. Second attempt I kpt the APC's and the panzer iv back while the Tiger and the artillery took on the antitankguns . After the AT guns were taken out the panzer iv and the APC could go for the flags while the Tiger tanks kept the T34 that appeared under fire from long range. Lost a few vehicles to mines .Around gameturn 35 the red army surrendered.

I think JDR's comments are fair, but I will add some explanation of the staggered set up zones restricting the Russian player.
In general, as a player I too prefer one big set up zone to allow me to plan my defense in any way I see fit. But that simply would not be historically accurate here, and would not present the right tactical problem to the German commander.
The German problem is speed. How to get through the depth of a deeply layered and various arm Russian defense, without ruinous losses to his lighter elements. A secondary, related problem is who goes first aka how methodical the attack is.
Tigers first can take anything thrown at them, but this maximizes the risk from mines or hidden AT teams. Mark IVs first maximizes the risk from the Russian ATGs. Infantry first allows the Russian MGs and infantry to do the most damage. SPWs first is unpromising, due to all the ATRs. So the German has to use real combined arms with fine coordination and judgment.
Another significant element is the risk of bogging off road. This plus the exit VC makes moving the whole length of the map with all tanks off road somewhat hazardous - you can easily have 2-3 bog and miss the exit just from the terrain. Concentrating on the road, on the other hand, gives mines and infantry AT teams their best chances. If the AT close assault teams just force the tanks to move out in the open far from the road, and a couple bog...
On using the infantry AT, both pioneers and tank hunters, they should skip foxholes at set up in favor of stealth. They cannot afford to try to move to reach targets - German vehicle firepower is too high. Instead they must use point blank ambush from trees or reverse slope positions. The Germans can avoid all such positions, true. But if they move exclusively in the open areas, the Russians know exactly where to aim their ATGs and can usually get flank shots on the Panzer IVs.
The Russians do not need to stop the German assault outright to win. They can do quite well just by delaying the Germans, or by punishing a speedier advance in dead Panzer IVs and dead halftracks. They can also save their T-34s - if sacrificing them to superior armor would be useless, just save the 300 kill points they represent by retreating them off the map from their reverse slope "laager". If on the other hand they can isolate on a leading Panzer IV, they can kill it.
The Russians ATGs are going to die. Their infantry is going to be cut in half but need not all die, if those out of the main line of advance hide when tanks are in LOS. Those that are overrun can sell themselves for German infantry if those lead, and the ATGs should score if the German infantry does not lead.
Exit VCs automatically require of a designer that the play balance be such that the exit required side can be expected, with average play, to penetrate the defense. Victory or defeat on the scoreboard should turn not on whether he does so, but on how expensive it is and how much gets off. The exiter basically has to get half the designated forces - here, the German armor - off the enemy edge intact. If the Russians actually stop the Germans that is decisive victory territory, and not something they should expect even half of the time.
So I don't think the play balance is off.

Here are my observations:
Regarding the number of units and their quality need superior numbers to be able to attack in the first place. As for the armor, well when you have an SS PzGrenadier division beaing down on you, you should know what to expect.
I don´t know if the terrain favored me per se. What I did see was a lot of potentially doubled edged swords with regard to defender deployments, which unfortunately for you turned out to be quite sharp ;-)
As for the map itself, it was rather open, but with a lot of concealing and masking terrain (primarily hills, but some forest). This allowed my halftracks in particular to skulk away from the hail of ATR and artillery that stymied them in the previous scenario and also allowed tem to keyhole against targets they could kill. On the other hand it also allowed you rich possibilities for reverse slope ambushes and other mischief (you thankfully only had one such position, on the hill to my right about halfway down the map).
The number of turns were also quite right for a scenario this size. It allows the german player exactly enough time to be methodical about his business, but not enough time for him to tarry or wait 10 turns for engineers to show up (as I wrongly did in the previous scenario).
As for your AT guns, they each had to destroy a tank on average for you to win (by the double whammy principle; you get both kill points for the dead tanks and I get penalized for not exiting them!). The one who was knocked out by the Tiger was bad part on your play, the 2 behind the hill did their duty, but the remnants fell to good play on my behalf in all modesty :-)). I used infantry and a single halftrack to kill one, and an excellently timed artillery barrage took care of the 2 others before they could fire. As it is, good play and forethought (clearing close terrain with infantry and firing preplanned barrages at likely resistance knots) was simply rewarded here.
As for the T34s, you should probabaly have kept them more centralised than you did I was able to egage each one of them in sequence). if say, all 3 T34s had duelled those 2 MK Ivs on the ridge, you might have been able to cream them. Instead the duel was 2:1 in my favor (oh, and only one of the T34s was Green. The two others were regular).The Tankhunters and ATRs were just bad luck. As for the TH´s, putting them in a place where they can´t be seen before they open fire is of course a must (Perhaps even going so ar as to set tem up without a foxhole in order not to give their position away by the presence of visible entrnechments!). The same essentially goes for the pioneers.
I can definetely see what you mean about the deployment forcing your hand. Perhaps a good thing to do for the scenario designer here would be to let the soviet player have a free deployment (or just color code all the deployment zones the same color).
You essentially only had enough mines to create a sizeable barrier in the foremost deployment zone, which you also did, but I noticed that most of the rest of the mines were often spread willy nilly in single patches. If you have mines then string them! An aggressive player will just aggressively recon a way around a single tile.
I would have created a strong redoubt at the back, leaving only screening forces in the first half of the map (perhaps a platoon or so with a smattering of MGs, ATRs and the odd Tankhunter). AT guns in the open (not anywhere near potential artillery magnet terrain like forests), preferably in reverse slope positions or sited to fire laterally. In trenches of course. THs and ATRs to cover the gaps between the Guns, as back up and for supporting the mine barriers (small as they may be here!). This would likely have meant that my preplanned barrages didn´t kill any guns, and all would have been able to fire at their leisure (or when forced to do so, by say encroaching infantry or flame halftracks ;-))
As for the infantry and machineguns, they are primarily there to strip my infantry from the tanks and set up ideal conditions for the THs and Pioneers to do their stuff. MGs in particular should not be kept firing when the tanks start to close. Just shut down, hide and open fire again if you can once the tanks have passed (provided of course the enemy infantry isn´t accompanying the tanks closely i n the first place!)
As for scenario balance, you "only" had to nail 1 MK IV for each gun/T34 lost in order to win outright (anything nailed by ATRs, THs or Pioneers is just gravy). This you failed to do. If you had managed to nail 6-7 MK IVs, the game would have been yours due to my offensive stalling due to losses and the "double whammy" principle of soviet scoring VPs :-)
As for my own tactics, I essentially planned on an aggressive push down the road (Tigers, 1 MK IV platoon, 2 platoons of enginners and 1 PZ grenadier platoon) coupled with an equally strong push up the right towards the V flag on the hill (2 MK Iv platoons, 2 Pz Grenadier platoons). As my advance rolled on those infantry platoons or squads "fought out" (loss of men or lack of ammo) would be left behind to guard the objectives.The 3 105mm spotters were each plotted on a patch of wood, which paid off handsomely in the end (2 hit air, but the last spotter scored big). The 150mm reactive module was really superflous but might have been vital had you been able to get the MK IV killing going in earnest (or worse yet, waxed the Tigers...). Infantry heavy weapons were nice for suppression. As it was, this plan pretty much worked out as advertised. The engineers took some heavy hits from artillery (one of the units losing it´s platoon HQ to a direct hit), but were still able to keep up and speedily clear the AT mines that held me up for a while. The infantry handily cleared the hill near my start line and the nearby woods (the halftracks worked very well for suppression here). The Tigers (as could be expected) took everything hurled at them. The MK Ivs less resilient but deadly when used in platoon "fists".
I also liked the fact that the germans were slightly "step reduced" from the last scenario, and I think this works well in conveying the effects of attrition. Can´t wait to see what it will be like in the last few games in this series.
Overall, I think the game might have slightly favoured the germans (mostly due to the 3 different soviet setup zones), but it is still eminently winnable if the soviet player can just get his 1:1 exchange rate going (9 MK Ivs for 6 guns and 3 T34s likely being the optimum attainable). The german player simply can´t stomach losing 3/4s of his MK Ivs (or indeed half..).

Played this PBEM. Game ended early due to opponent surrendering.
Here are his observations:
Looking at the map, you once again had the clear advantage in armor and quality of units. Terrain had favored your units in this one, as opposed to the last one. I started off with 6 x 76mm guns, all of which I painstakingly placed at certain parts of the map, hoping for close-range shots. #1 managed to destroy your only flametrack (what a relief!) early on. #2 got off two or three shots before being immediately destroyed by your Tigers spearheading the advance. #3 and 4 were placed on the reverse slope of the large hill on your right flank. Each managed to KO a PzIV before their inevitable destruction. #5 and 6, located in the wooded area on the left near the intersection, never fired a shot. They were destroyed by direct hits from one of your 105mm barrages around turn 21-22. After that, no ATGs for Dave. :( As usual, I had an abundance of ATRs and tank hunter teams. The ATRs are focused primarily on your halftracks and advancing infantry. Occasionally a side/rear shot on a tank if such a target presented itself. The tank hunters were essentially worthless on this map. Foxholes were difficult to place, given the good visibility and relatively flat terrain on certain parts of the map. IIRC, all of my tank hunter teams NEVER used their RPGs during his scecnario. My FOs managed to cause 20+ infantry casualties, but didnt attain the level of usefulness as in teh prior scenario. Two platoons of pioneers hidden in the wooded areas were never in the position to assault your armor, as you kept them close to the road. When I tried to sneak them closer to the raod, they were spotted and mowed down. The T-34s (3) were all green. I knew they wouldnt have a chance vs Tigers or even Mark IVs over open terrain, so I just sat them in the very rear until you got close enough. Even then they proved to be a major dissapointment; achieving not one kill. Overall, I think this was a pretty unbalanced scenario. Even massing the ATGs, as you had previously suggested, was impossible because the pre-battle deployment phase limited my units to three different areas. On the first scenario, I had spread my forces too thin. On the second, my setup was excellent and your advance was slow. On this one, the opposite seemed to be the case. My setup was questionable to poor, and your advance was quick and decisive. I noticed that only one of your tanks became immobilized, and none had even rolled over my ill-placed mines. Also noticed that your tanks conserved ammo much better than last scenario. I was surprised to see your spearhead Tigers with 11 HE/~30 AP rounds.

We played this one in a few sessions TCP/IP and I won a major victory as Soviet.
The attrition for the Germans was just too great.
The three Tigers went down by a 122 artillery hit, an AT mine and a demolition charge of a pioneer (he should have stayed away from the bushes :-).
Panzer IV's went by mines, AT-guns, tank hunters and one by the T34's, and only two made it to the exit zone.
The two southern Flags were still contested (by hidden Russians), the two northern ones were Russian at game end.
The three T34's got some halftracks but only one Panzer IV, and were all destroyed.
It was good fun, but hard for the Germans.

Played against the AI with a +2 bonus for the allies, managed a minor victory. I lost 3 Pz IV's to the anti tank guns and I don't see how I could have done any better. This is a very tough scenario and I enjoyed it completly. My only recommendation is to expand the playing area a bit to the south, some of my reinforcements came on the board in sight of the allied guns because I hadn't moved the previous reinforcements forward yet (intensionally). This scenario would be very difficult against a human opponent. I am sure the axis would eventially prevail, but it would be costly. Also it was nice to have adequate arty support for the axis so a combined arms operation could be waged.

Have started my battle with Shamvis an 1st impressions are good. The enjoyed reading the brief that puts the historical aspect of this scenario in an informative and detailed manner without giving away the baby with the bath water.
The map is excellent. I don't know how if it's topographically correct but it doesn't matter. It's full of subtleties and requires careful examination for LOS and areas of opportunity.
Despite the open terrain there's enough dips and mounds on the map that you have no idea what's going to come at you as the Red player. If it's anything like Jason's Russian training scenario's you can't take first impressions for granted otherwise get ready for a butt kicking!
I'm thinkig this is going to be full of surprises and I have my doubts whether I can win this one. All best patrick
